Israeli Forces Shell Southern Syria, Advance Briefly into Daraa Countryside
According to reports, artillery fire targeted areas on the outskirts of Saisoun village in western Daraa, as well as zones near the al-Mantara Dam area in neighboring Quneitra province. Two shells were said to have landed close to Saisoun.
The same reports also indicated that a small Israeli unit made up of three military vehicles moved toward the Wadi al-Raqad road in the Yarmouk Basin region. During the advance, the troops reportedly fired machine guns in the direction of farmland planted with wheat and barley before later pulling back.
Syrian authorities have not issued an official response regarding the shelling or the brief ground movement. The incident comes amid what has been described as frequent Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty.
Following the collapse of the previous Syrian leadership in late 2024, Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement void and expanded its presence into the buffer zone along the border area.
Although the current Syrian administration has not issued threats toward Israel, Israeli operations inside Syrian territory have continued, including airstrikes that have reportedly caused civilian casualties and targeted military positions, equipment, and ammunition sites.
