Iran, US Clash Over Cause of Damage at Kuwait Airport Terminal
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi stated that investigations indicated the group’s Aerospace Division did not fire on the airport facility. “Our investigations regarding the impact on Kuwait’s passenger terminal show that the IRGC Aerospace Force did not fire at this target,” he said.
He further argued that the destruction resulted from a failed interception attempt, saying, “The destruction of the passenger terminal at Kuwait Airport was caused by an American Patriot system error after it failed to intercept Iranian missiles.”
According to Iranian claims, the incident occurred during broader military exchanges, including reported IRGC attacks on a US base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, which Iran described as retaliation for a US strike on a communications facility on Qeshm Island.
US Central Command rejected Iran’s version of events. “Totally false,” it said in a statement posted on social media, asserting that the airport was hit directly by Iranian drones in what it described as a “deliberate, calculated, and unjustified attack.”
The conflicting accounts highlight escalating tensions and competing narratives between Tehran and Washington over recent military incidents in the region.
