Israeli Attorney General Summons Netanyahu Over Classified Leak

(MENAFN) Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has decided to summon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to testify in an investigation into the alleged leak of classified documents, as stated by reports.

A date for Netanyahu’s testimony has not yet been set. He is expected to respond to questions about how sensitive information was obtained from his office in an ongoing case examining claims that his chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, tried to obstruct the investigation into the leak of confidential documents to a German newspaper.

The attorney general has authorized police to summon Netanyahu for questioning, while a court-imposed confidentiality order regarding how the classified information was obtained before the leak remains in place.

Braverman was previously detained on suspicion of attempting to block the probe into the transfer of sensitive documents to foreign media outlets. He is seen as a central figure in Netanyahu’s office, managing key sensitive files.

As part of the same investigation, former Netanyahu spokesperson Eli Feldstein, who had been previously arrested, has been summoned again to provide testimony. In an interview on December 24, Feldstein claimed that Braverman summoned him late at night during Gaza attacks to a secret meeting and offered an arrangement aimed at preventing a security investigation into the Prime Minister’s Office.
