Iran Reports Over 3,700 Police Officers Wounded in Protests
Ibrahim Azizi, who chairs the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, released the casualty figures at a press briefing focused on the ongoing anti-government movement, according to a news agency.
Authorities provided no information regarding protester or civilian fatalities stemming from the turmoil.
Massive demonstrations have rocked Tehran and numerous Iranian municipalities in recent weeks, fueled by deteriorating economic circumstances and historic devaluation of the rial, Iran's national currency.
Official death counts remain unavailable from Iranian government sources. However, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a US-based advocacy organization, calculates total fatalities have surpassed 3,700, encompassing both security personnel and demonstrators. The group estimates authorities have detained over 24,300 protesters during the crackdown.
The competing casualty figures highlight the deepening crisis as Iran grapples with its most significant civil unrest wave in months, with no resolution in sight amid mounting economic pressures.
