Iranian leader gets harmed in Israeli attack

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suffered minor injuries during Israeli air raids last month, as reported by an Iranian state-linked outlet.

The airstrike, which occurred on June 16, allegedly involved the use of six precision bombs aimed at entry points to a concealed underground bunker in western Tehran. According to reports, President Pezeshkian and several high-ranking officials were attending a Supreme National Security Council meeting at the location when the strike took place.

It was reported that the explosions knocked out electricity to the facility, prompting an emergency evacuation. During the escape through a backup exit shaft, Pezeshkian is said to have sustained injuries to his leg.

The strike was reportedly patterned after the attacks carried out in Beirut in September 2024, which led to the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.

The incident occurred during a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran that ended with a ceasefire brokered by the United States on June 24. During that period, Israeli operations reportedly killed a number of senior Iranian military leaders and nuclear experts.

In a recent interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, President Pezeshkian claimed that Israel had attempted to assassinate him. Israeli authorities have not publicly addressed the allegation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the strikes were launched to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The United States supported the operation and participated in joint strikes against Iranian nuclear sites on June 22. Iran has maintained that its nuclear activities are entirely peaceful and condemned the attacks as unjustified.
